A new child is learning the legal web

A new little pc is starting again to learn the legal web ...

It was the 1999. April, 25 1999.

I decided that was missing a simple tool: a search engine for websites talking about laws.

At those times I didn't know anything about Google. I knew Cornucopia bbs, that was my search engine for BBS in Fidonet, for those who remembers. I wrote the first one in Italy, and when the biggest sysop of Fidonet tryed to do the same without me, failed. It was the first years of the '90, with a Zyxel modem.

In 1999 I developed the first search engine: it looked in a text file ! and was written in Perl.

Then in 2000 it began written in php, with no sql database. Then the database.

Then I wrote the spider, in visual basic. It was so excellent that it worked in all these years spidering the web, extracting the best news, and producing the sql command to add new links to iusseek.com and iusseek.eu

In 2009 began radiotape. The most unknown of my websites, the most innovative. It started a search engine of podcasts. Then iTVmania, the same for videos online, and finally Amministrativo.it.

Amministrativo in the last months had a huge innovation support developing new technologies based on usual web pages crawlers, feed rss, twitter account and facebook accounts. The last two technologies are still in "lab" mode, under development, but they are working even if very consuming of connection and hardware. The biggest experience is still Gloxa, a groupware based on twitter, where people can group tweets by hashtags. So innovative.

Today I've exported some solutions on a new server, based on our offices.

I've discovered that in 2002 I've developed a internal standard to tag al contents, that I'm still using in the same formato. I had forgotten it.

The tool is totally based on the latest lamp server on a pc with lubuntu. Yes: it is php on linux, and can work also on mac and windows.

It is already in production, due to its simplicity. Simple doesn't mean easy. It means good.

A friend asked me about tagging.

In those years I've tested internally (there's no market in Italy) different methods.

• The first is manual. Optimum for quality.
• The second is social: good to discover new principles
• The third is networked: good to manage big datas.

What is the best ? Nobody. This is the error everybody made until now with ontologies, dictionaries, and so on.

We have to add some dust of programming, user interface and legal design.

Then the three methods must be joined and balanced. And I'm working on this now.

You have to know the laws and the cases; you have to stay in communities talking about laws; finally you have to stay updated from government news.

Amministrativo.it is already a very good tool. With a click we find all we need as lawyers, as owners of houses, as entrepreneur. Yes: with a simple click you ask for infos in 200.000 documents (by now). It's still in Italian, sorry, but I can develop other solutions in different languages.

Then there's the future.

I can't express all the directions, the methods, the visions we are trying.

It's just exacting, for now, testing how ricercagiuridica.com/sentenze highlight some terms useful for the readers. Cases highlighted by the software. And this works, I've the feedback from the analytics.

And in the meantime I'm saving anonimously the search the people do. Not all, not in the same way. They have different meanings, partially as google suggestion does.

It's innovation. It's exacting.

Finally it will help just supporters. Yes. This is the time to let supporters support the development, with customizations and subscriptions.

Google omits the keys you search ? Doesn't matter. I have my internal statistics. Divided into  different subjects and type of documents.
